We bought our
first alpacas in January of 2002 -- the pregnant Tasha and her
daughter Tess.
Tess
has grown up nicely in the four years we've had her. During her show career, she went from fourth place at the 2002 AOBA Nationals to a Blue Ribbon at the 2002
Frederick Fair to a Reserve Champion at 2003 Alpacarama! She gave us another great girl (see Molly below), and now she's due this fall with cria number two from our herdsire Miguel!
 Tasha
had another little girl (I know we're lucky!) on June 26,
2002. We named her T for Texas after an old Jimmie Rogers
song. She's a great little girl sired by Quetzal from Magical
Farms. She scored a
Second Place ribbon at the 2003 AOBA Nationals. She's been bred to Stetson of Peru, half Accoyo son of PPPeruvian King, owned by our friends at Bellasera Alpacas and A'Paca Fun Farm.
In
May 2002 we got our first boy, Dreamrunner, from our friends at Blue
Ribbon! He's a wonderful boy, who shows all the signs of
becoming an awesome herdsire (although we bought him because he and
my wife share a birthday - May 9th)! He also made us proud by winning a Second Place ribbon at the Virginia
Classic.
His first cria arrived in October 2004, and he
looks marvelous! (See Rudy below). Dreamrunner looks forward
to meeting eligible young lady suris.
By
January 2003, we needed more alpacas! We found Dharma -
a great foundation girl to start our suri breeding program. And by March she gave us Atticus, a wonderful Medium Silver
Gray boy sired by Ameripaca's
famous Gunsmoke. She also gave us Rudy Can't Fail (see Rudy below), sired by our own Dreamrunner, on October 23, 2004.
She
was bred to Captain Morgan (from our friends at Alpaca Vista) last fall and is due this fall (make it a girl, Dharma)!
We
chose Miguel as a foundation for our huacaya breeding
program. He's a stocky full Peruvian brown boy sired by Double
O Good's Black Cloud Boy. Miguel picked up a Blue Ribbon for
his fleece at the 2003 Alpacarama.
Miguel gave us Whiskey Sam last fall, and also sired Coco Cherie for our friends at Happy Rock
Alpacas. He's got another two cria due this fall from Tasha and Tess. Don't
worry, though. Miguel is still looking for attractive
young huacaya ladies.
In
late spring 2003, we wanted to get some boys that we could just have fun
with at fairs and community events. Enter Cinco de Mayo
and Chaching from our friends at Sandhill
Alpacas. These boys are both 4H halter and obstacle
veterans and are always eager to meet our farm visitors.
Tasha gave
us a third girl in the fall of 2003! Stormy (full name: Wings of the Storm) was born on
September 18th,
the
day Hurricane Isabel tore through the mid-Atlantic. It was
quite an exciting day.
Stormy's
wonderful fleece gave us a 17 micron count her first two years. Stormy is bred to Bellasera's Accoyo Romeo for a Spring 2007 cria!
In the Fall of 2004 we had two new arrivals!
Rudy Can't Fail is the spittin' image of his sire, Dreamrunner. He's done very well in the show ring for us, just like Dad, taking Second, Third, and Fourth place ribbonsl
and
Hey There, Molly! With Molly, Tess has given us just the rich brown we're seeking. Molly made us proud in the show ring, earning Second, Third, and Sixth place ribbons.
And then came Whiskey Sam!
Since he came along in September 2005, he's been kicking a** and taking names. We were a little worried when he went in with the big boys in March, but he's been known to chase his 200 pound dad, Miguel, around the barn just for grins. Look for Sam in the fall shows!
